Renewable Energy – wind, wave and tidal
TAG Energy Solutions has developed its extensive experience in the oil & gas sector to enhance its capabilities to design, project manage and construct large onshore and offshore structures for the renewable energy sector.
Wind energy substructure devices
- Fixed offshore units – substructures for wind turbines
- Steel monopiles – hollow diameter steel cylinders driven into the seabed
- Tripod/jacket foundations – a frame with three or more legs pinned to the seabed with driven steel piles
- Gravity base foundations – a large concrete/steel structure that sits on the seabed
- Suctions Buckets – to secure turbines without drilling into the seabed
Mobile offshore units
Having worked with the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Energy Accelerator project to assess the scope and capabilities of the UK offshore wind sector to meet the challenges of the energy market, TAG ES has investigated a number of solutions for the industry including fixed and floating offshore units.
Wave and Tidal
TAG ES is expanding its presence in the offshore renewables sector with plans to introduce wave and tidal products and services.
The company is in dialogue with a number of wave and tidal device developers and is ready to support this exciting emerging industry.

The Carbon Trust’s OWA initiative aims to reduce the total cost of offshore wind energy by up to 10% over the next five years.
The OWA is focusing on developing innovative, lower-cost solutions in four areas:
- New foundation and installation techniques to allow turbines to be built and deployed more cheaply in deeper water; currently, these activities can account for between 25 and 50% of capital costs
- More efficient methods of accessing turbines to allow maintenance in heavier seas – this will increase availability, allowing more electricity to be generated
- Improving the understanding of wake effects; this will not only allow wind array layouts to be optimised, but also allow increase the accuracy of yield forecasts – reducing financing costs
- Researching ways to reduce electricity losses within the array.
As part of the project, TAG Energy Solutions was engaged to deliver a number of cost studies based around fabrication of units for offshore wind developments.
