TAG Energy Solutions completes £8 million equipment investment
TAG Energy Solutions has invested £8 million in state of the art manufacturing equipment for its new offshore wind tubular production facility.
The equipment is being installed in the £20 million facility on the banks of the River Tees at Haverton Hill, Billingham, which is on course to be online for production before the end of June 2011.
Constructed in readiness for the Round 3 offshore wind developments, the facility is the first of its kind in the UK and recruitment is underway for the first tranche of a 100-strong core workforce. A further 300 jobs are expected to be created to meet future contract demand.
Sourced from specialist manufacturers from around the world, the equipment form component parts of the innovative automated steel tubular production process designed by TAG. Once operational, the system has the potential to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Created to roll and weld large diameter tubulars used in the construction of offshore windmill jacket and monopile foundations, the facility has the capacity to produce 100,000 Tonnes of tubulars per annum.
Among the new arrivals are two steel rolling machine manufactured by Davi in Italy, the very latest Air Liquide welding equipment from France.
TAG has also invested in cranes from UK company, Kone and a flipping table from Garrandale in Derbyshire.
TAG has also sourced two Suprarex cutting systems from Andover-based ESAB Cutting Systems, which have been manufactured in Germany along with manipulators from Singapore.
